FRMS Forum Update..... September 2010
Hi All
Here are a few things that have dropped on my desk of late
1. FAA has just published their paper on Flightcrew Member Duty and Rest Requirements. You can get a copy in the Regulation section in the FRMS Forum website library at http://www.frmsforum.org/members_area/forum_library/regulations_for_fatigue_management/index.html. It's publication number 003:FAA Fatigue NTDT NPRM. Here too is a link to some comment http://www.alaskajournal.com/stories/092310/loc_Faar.shtml
2. As part of a joint safety initiative, Boeing and Jeppesen have been developing tools for allowing better management of alertness and fatigue. Those of us that attended the May 2010 FRMS Forum conference will have seen Tomas and Emma demonstrate this tool. It's available at
http://www.iapper.com/crewalert-business
3. IATA's Aviation Health Conference is being held at The Sheraton Skyline at Heathrow Airport London 28th and 29th September 2010. Look out for David Powell's presentation on installing FRMS in a commercial airline. More at http://www.iata.org/events/aviation-health/Pages/index.aspx
4. Opt-Alert exists. It's a device that looks like a pair of sunglasses detects drowsiness in a road vehicle driver through measuring eye movement. More here http://www.humeweekly.com.au/news/local/news/general/scientist-at-work-on-driver-fatigue/1946757.aspx
5. NACC are proposing to host a half day FRMS Seminar on September 28 from 1230 to 1700 EDT. Look out for Jim Mangie presenting. More information from NACC Chairman Michel Chiasson's team through their website http://www.airlinecouncil.ca/en/contact.html
6. UK Rail regulators and key UK train operating comapnies have decided to support a Rail subsection of the FRMS Forum. Whilst the FRMS Forum will continue with its primary focus on promoting occupational alertness and FRMS within the aviation industry we propose to use our experience to assist other industries with their alertness issues starting with Rail. A free of charge inaugural meeting will take place for all interested parties at the offices of The Rail Safety and Standards Board on 16th March 2011. We will announce more on the website as news become available.
7. Simon Stewart has left easyJet and been appointed CEO to Nasair in Riyadh
Have a good weekend
Kind regards
Douglas
